Calm
04:12
|
|||
I know I've hurt you in the past
I know I've given you more reason than I care to guess
To leave me cryin’ all alone on a dusty patch at the end of the road
I won’t blame if you walk away….
From me…
There’s even a voice inside that’s cryin’ out, for you to run
Cuz if you go
I’m left here all alone with my shame
And the burnin’ revelation that I’ve only ever had myself to blame
Lookin’ for a calm sigh to bring me through the night
And a humble tide, learnin’ I’m not right
Such a long time since I had this
Such a long time since you heard it
I’ve been learnin’ how to listen
I’ve been workin’ on myself
And if I saw you tomorrow for a chance to change it all, I think I’d fall silent
Cuz if I go
To that place inside my heart I feel your pain
And I’m only just beginning to learn what it means for me to love myself again.
Lookin’ for a calm sigh to bring me through the night
And a humble tide, learnin’ I’m not right
Such a long time since I had it
Such a long time since you heard it
Nobody else has seen me down inside these depths
And I can’t hide myself from the person that knows me best
And I’m still learnin’ who that is
A calm sigh to bring me through the night
And a humble tide learnin’ I’m not right
Such a long time since I had it
Such a long time since you heard it
Such a long time come…
And gone

Smile
04:28
|
|||
I have no patience for these tears
Even when the truth appears
Pull a title from the songs of yesterday and I give a smile
To hide
From the fear
Of being discovered that I feel
Something other than what a man who’s seen his days
Tells a boy within his face
A tear
Has no place
But what becomes if I don’t heal
I feel a storm is coming for all you people here
I can’t control myself or so I’ve told the self that lives in fear
Put it below and act so tall
You read right through me you can see it all
I try to tell you that I’ve heard it all before and I give a smile
To hide
From the fear
Of being discovered that I feel
Something deep inside a man who’s seen his days
Tells a boy within his face
A tear
Has its place
But what becomes if I don’t heal
It’s like a forest fire is burning through my ears
Can I control the heat or is it just a feature of my years
Ooooooooooooooooooooooh
Ooooooooooooooooooooooh
Will I find patience for these tears?
Even if the truth should rear its ugly head at me when I
Pull a title from the songs of yesterday
Will I ever smile again?
Will I ever smile?

Dad

Ooooh sittin by the water with you
Speakin’ my heartfelt truth
I’ve been afraid of you, and what I thought you might be thinkin’
I’ve been losin’ my damn mind, hopin’ that I might forgive what never was a sin
I was feedin’
A truth
With bitter indignation and my pain
But what is true might not be free
And I can tell it’s costin’ me
You and me
Growin’ from the same set o’ roots
And I can feel the sun right through the shadow
So when we turn our leaves
I’m reachin’ for the light.
Ooooh watchin’ the ships go by
And was it just the wind, or is there really water wellin’ up inside your eyes?
You were feedin’
The truth
With honesty and love I couldn’t find
Who cares what the cost might be if you can give it up for free
You and me
Growin’ from the same set o’ roots
And you can feel the sun right through the shadow
So when we turn our leaves
We’re reachin’ for the light.
